Lack of College Football Playoff Is Un-American

The greatest problem with the BCS is that it exists. It is perfectly legitimate for big-time college football to not have a playoff system. But it is not, and has never been legitimate for big-time college football to name one team the champion without a playoff. That would be like naming the President without a vote.

If college footballs teams completed their regular season and were invited to a bowl where they were simply named the champion of that particular bowl if they one, everything would be fine and dandy. There would be lots of spirited barber shop debates about who the best team might be. There would be some teams not invited to a bowl that might feel stiffed. College Football: Milking the cash cow they know

So, what does the NCAA’s reluctance to implementing a college football playoff really boil down to? Well if you said it’s the insane amount of money generated by the current bowl system you’ve earned a gold star. Isn’t it always about the money.

Of course, playoff advocates would argue that the March Madness basketball tournament proves that a collegiate football playoff would be a huge cash producer, especially since college football is a more popular sport than college basketball. And in fact, you will not find many in the anti-playoff crowd who do not believe that a playoff would be a major money maker. So why then do I say that money is still the obstacle? Debunking Anti-Playoff Arguments for College Football

We’ve heard all of the excuses against a college football playoff before, too many extra games, to much academic stress on the student athletes. And of course, those arguments never made any sense because right in our faces the NCAA was operating a football playoff for its lower divisions. Also, the notion that a playoff is an untenable academic strain is made ridiculous when you consider that within these lower football divisions are many of the most challenging academic institutions in the country.
